ISTD Chennai Chapter. June  Month Meeting on 18/06/2015

ISTD Chennai Chapter organized monthly meeting on Panel discussion format on “Skill Development” at Hotel Savera, Chennai on 18th June 2015. It was well attended by more than 100 Corporates which commenced with high-tea. Newly elected Chairman, Dr R Karthikeyan welcomed the gathering and was a moderator for the panel discussion. Mr. T V Subba Rao, Mentor ISTD Chennai Chapter introduced the speakers and set the context of Panel discussion. Eminent speakers for the session were Mr. R Natarajan, Project Director, Tamil Nadu State Development Corporation, Mr. N Balasubramanian, Technical Lead, Automotive Skills Development Council and Mr. P Padmakumar, Team Leader & Head of Human Resources, Flat Glass Business, Saint Gobain Glass India Pvt. Ltd.

They shared their perspectives from Government, Skill Development Council and Corporate in the Skill Development areas in the recent years, success stories, opportunities available and challenges ahead. Mr. Natarajan shared about the skill developments initiatives done in Tamil Nadu State in various places, courses and job opportunities available for skilled people and informed that State Government is bring newer initiatives as market is vast to be tapped.  Mr. Balasubramaian said that ASDC is engaged in the domain of skill development for the Automotive Sector, in the areas of conducting research related to skill gap, developing training course curriculum & training standards, training the trainers, assessment and certification of trainers and students and these activities are preferred by the Automotive Industry and recognized by the Government of India. Mr. Padmakumar shared the industry perspectives as to how the Institute (academics) and Industry gap can be reduced and can be bridged by providing industry as a learning platform for students to skill-up and can be potential employee. The speakers replied to all the professional queries during Q&A session. The session was well received by the participants and Dr R Karthikeyan, Chairman summed the expectations of people, which is to conduct one day program on this topic and said that it would be considered in the coming months.
